I recieved more info on the Blue Coyote sponsership issue.
The sponsorship was lost, not stolen!
Lets keep it simple: The Padres frequent the Blue Coyote regularly, and have for 5 years long before they sponsored any team. On one outing to the Coyote this winter the servers and management shared that the team they sponsor never came in and that they would like to sponsor the Padres as they always come in (win or lose - and we all know it was mostly for the losing). So the Padres were approached by the Coyote. We went forward and accepted their sponsorship (with old and existing management - no convincing or stealing necessary. Afterwards, we contacted the old Coyote manager to make sure he knew...he did not. We were surprised by the Coyote for not contacting them in advance. The Padre Manager told the other team manager that they would step aside. The Padre Manager went to the Coyote in person to give back the sponsorship. The Coyote said they were not interested in sponsoring last year's team even if we returned their money. We offered to help the old team find a sponsor, but it did not make sense to have no team sponsored by the Coyote. Oh, and by the way, the "old" owners and management are the ones who made all the decisions. As far as I know, the new owners don't event take posession until March. The old owner signed the check and the old (and existing manager) spoke on behalf of last year's experience and their decision. The sponsorship was lost, not stolen!

BS. I know Gail and Dave well enough to know they would not be so foolish as to say we "never came in". This is because they know that the former Blue Coyote team was made up of several Monster.com employees. I think it's fair to say we have given them more than enough business over the years. It went far beyond a few beers after the game. That is how the sponsorship came about in the first place. This is also far from the story told by others at the bar the night the sponsorship was stolen. G. Bott
There are 2 types of people I hate in this world. People that steal other teams' sponsors..........and the Dutch.
Just an update to this ---
So, late February I organized a boycott of the Blue Coyote. Not just me, not just the guys on the team, but anyone who was friends with any of us. For those who don't know, the Monster sales force is about 100 strong in Maynard, with about 80% of those people being extroverts between the ages of 25 & 40 who certainly like to go out after work.
Over the last 2+ months, there have been about 6-10 of us who used to lunch there who now go to the PSC, and another 15-20 of us who used to go to the Coyote after work for drinks, all of whom now frequent the Plesant Street Cafe instead of the blue Coyote.
By conservative standards, we spend a minimum of $400 per week down there, and during a good week, certainly upwards of $800 to $1,000. It's not just that we now go there to drink, it's that everyone knows it and it's catching on. If you are wondering whether or not people were grabbing a drink tonight, there's no more reason to go into the Coyote.
Considering the high prices of the Coyote, I would say this would easily translate to $500-$1,000 per week that the new owners of the coyote have been losing in revenue.
Just wondering - since you stole the sponsorship, just how much time have you folks logged in there?
So I guess the point is, you didn't just steal a sponsorship, you didn't just f*ck another team in your league. You f*cked a local business out of more money than you can replace. Nice work.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.
