2008 LEAGUE CHAMPS

The Championship Game for the 2008 Stow Men's Softball League was outstanding. What seemed to be a pitchers duel with John Anderson and Mike Lowery each working the high arc the game went extra innings and finished 8-7 in 8 innings.

The game had ups and downs with the Paper Store scoring first and then the Pleasant Cafe surging ahead only to have the Paper Store to have a 5 run inning to tie it up.

The drama unfolded in extra innings when Mike Lowery (inset) held the Paper Store scoreless in the top of the eighth.





In the Bottom of the Eighth, Kenny who had not been having a great series offensively reached first on a hard hit ball to 3rd. Ben Gilbert then chipped in with a double to right which left runners on second and third. The next batter Steve Malcolm having 4 homeruns in 2 days was not suprisingly intentionaly walked to Load the bases. Prior to the game Jim Stewart (inset) thought they would be walking Steve so we flipped the batting order of him and Steve which led to Stew being up in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and no outs to hit a deep shot into right field to score Kenny on Jim's walk off single.

Playoff Championship Update

The Series is tied 1-1 after stellar offensive output by the Pleasant Cafe and an almost as impresive showing by the Paper Store. The final score ended up with the PC beating the Paper Store 19-14. As in the first game the team that made less errors won. Steve Malcolm (pictured) went 4 for 4 with 3 Home runs, 5 RBI, and a walk to lead the PC's offense. Other standouts were Adam Camara 3-4 1 RBI, Jonny Gomez 4-5 1 HR 2 RBI, and Jay Conquest 5-5 2 RBI.

GAME 1 UPDATE

Game one saw one team hit the ball better than they have all season and play a great all around game, (PAPER STORE) and another not be able to get out of their own way in the field.(Pleasant Cafe) In the end the paperstore defeated the PC 21-15 in fading light. Dominant throughout the Paperstore held off The PC in innings that looked as if they may tirn the game around.

Stow Men's Softball World Series

So after a long often rainy season 2 teams will face off for the championship. The number 2 seed in the playoffs Pleasant Cafe (13-3) defeated the number 3 seed Wolverines (10-6) to advance while the 5th seed Paper Store with a gritty 6-10 record knocked off the number 4 seed Blue Coyote (9-7)and took out the number 1 seeded Auto Tech (15-1) to advance.



Games will be held Monday and Tuesday with Wednesday to be played if needed in this best of 3 format.

Thursday's game update

Auto Tech came out strong scoring 3 runs in the 1st and adding 3 more in the 3rd but The Paper Store slowly chipped away scoring 3 runs in the 3rd and adding 4 in the 6th to take the lead for good. Thanks to great pitching from John Anderson and great catches from our outfielders, The Paper Store was able to hold on to the lead and come out with a 7-6 win. It was a great victory for us as Auto Tech is always a tough team to play.

Wednesdays game update

The Pleasant Cafe started out the game very slow falling into an 8-1 deficit after 4 1/2 innings, literally hobbling around the bases (Joe). In the bottom of the 5th, the PC opened the flood gates. The PC found their bats and had many timely hits, as well as a few key errors by the Wolverines and put 6 up on the board. The bottom of the 6th was no different with PC putting up 7 more runs on some HUGE hits by the middle of the order. PC ended up with the Victory 14-8 and moved into the next round of the playoffs.

Key Stat of the game: Joe Baldellis (of the PC), after hurting his groin, was delegated to catching duties and could not even hobble himself down to first.
3 ab's (post injury),,, 1 four pitch walk, and twice getting throw out at first by the OF, BUT had 3 rbi's in those at bats.

Playoff Update

The 5th seeded Paper Store scored 9 runs in the first,

and then held on as 4th seed Blue Coyote chipped away –

and left the tying run on second in the 7th inning.

Final Score: Paper Store 10 – Blue Coyote 9.

Playoff Update

The Wolverines belted several home runs on their

way to a 17 – 9 thrashing of Enduring Elements

in the first Stow Men’s Softball League playoff game

in quite some time.


The game was close for a couple of innings, but the

number 3 seeded Wolverines pulled away in the middle

innings against the number 6 seeded Elements team.

Wednesday Night, J&S beat Enduring Elements something like 14-11, i cant remember.

last night the PC beat the Paperstore by 2 10-8 or something close to that.

Fridays game update

Enduring Elements and J&S had a makeup game on Friday.

After valiant efforts to clean off the field following heavy rains,

J&S forfeited with only 7 guys showing.

This weeks update

This Weeks update. I had been in Chicago all week so here you go all at once.

Monday: J&S forfeited to Auto Tech
This mean if you count forfeits no team has scored on Auto tech in 4 games!

Tuesday: Enduring Elements defeated the Padres 18-4.
Close contest (3 to 2 EE) for five innings,
Then EE scored 4 in the 6th and 11 in the 7th.
Padres came back with 2 in the 7th for an 18 – 4 final – Enduring Elements.

Wednesday: Wolverines defeated the blue Coyote 13-3.
I was told to post that jared brennan is an awful right fielder. Who multiple sources have said recorded 5 errors in this game.

Thursday: Pleasant Cafe forfeited to The Paper Store
Its unacceptable when the bar is more important than showing up for your teammates.

Thursday's game update

In last nights game going into the 7th it was 7-7 between the Pleasant Cafe and Enduring Elements. In the top of the 7th PC loaded the bases with Ben our 2 hitter coming up put it into tthe soccer net clearing the bases for a quick 4 spot. two more runners crossed before the end of the Inning for a 13-7 PC win.

Tuesday Game update

With bases loaded and 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, Dan Hernandez tied the game with a 2 run single.

Nick Krol had a walk off single to bring in Jim Anderson and the win.

Score was 13 – 12 with Paper Store squeaking out a win over the padres.

Wednesdays game update

The blue Coyote beat J&S 11-10 last night with some late inning heroics.

The PC beat J&S 15-2 last night and finished of the tie from earlier in the year 5-2, for a 2 win night.

On Friday Blue Coyote Beat J&S 10-9 in a 9 inning Game.

Last night The PC beat the padres something like 20-2.

Wednesdays game update

The “Elements” and Paper Store were tied 3 to 3 in the 6th,

but Paper Store put up a 3 spot and held on to win 6 to 4.



EE’s John Musto led the grounds crew in preparing the field,

as conditions were horrible at best. He and his crew made

the surface very playable after heavy downpours delayed the

start of the game.

it was a slugfest battle for the ages with a combined 41 runs scored. unfortunately, Auto Tech scored 38 of them, so Blue Coyote lost 38-3.

Last night after falling behind early the Wolverines came back and than held off the Pleasant Cafe for 12-9 win.

Auto Tech 8 - Enduring Elements 5

After a few sprinkles in the 1st inning, the rains held off, and the

game was played on a pretty good field thanks to the diligent

grounds crew from Auto Tech.

Enduring Elements had an upset on its mind, with the score tied 4-4 after 4 innings.

But Auto Tech scored 2 in the 5th and had a 2-run blast into the woods in the 7th,

going on to win 8 to 5.

Quite a few defensive gems, especially in the outfield,

for both teams in this closely played contest.

The Pleasant Cafe Held off a 6th inning 4 run surge from the Wolverines to win by a score of 6-5

Wednesdays game update

The Padres and Enduring Elements played a tough back and forth game,

with the Padres scoring 2 runs in the top of the seventh and EE leaving

the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to send it into extra innings.

But EE did indeed endure, getting a game winning hit from Josh in the bottom

of the eighth.

Last night the Pleasant Cafe and the Paperstore beat the rain and the game ended with a 19-4 win by the PC. Jim Stewart was hitting the cover off the ball even though due to a bad hamstring he was regulated to DH/Catcher. Steve Malcolm and Jay Conquest also hit well in the game.

Scoring 9 runs to defeat J&S 18 to 12.

Wednesday's game update.

We put up a valiant fight, scoring a season high 8 runs 2 of them in the last inning, but we went down to defeat 35 to 8 ouch! Jason Schiering hit a triple, Dave Neilsen had some nice pitching. Dave Ahlquist and Steve Belsanti made some nice plays at 3rd and left field. Jim Paleromo and Jay Solomon held down the right side of the field. Autotech used the long ball against us, hitting two grand slams, a three-run homer and a at least one two run homer. We'll get 'em next time.

Wednesdays game update

Coyote beat J&S last night 24-18. J&S rallied w/ 10 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 2 run lead, but we came back w/ another 8 in the top of the 7th and shut em down 1-2-3 in the bottom half to hold on for the W.

In Mondays action, auto tech beat the wolverines 22-8, it was 10-7 in the top of the 4th then auto tech pulled away.

The Paper Store finally got another win. The Paper Store beat the Padres 18 – 7. Everyone was getting hits but their lone home run was once again by Tom Anderson. But even though their bats were hot, they did have someone strike out. Next week we have drinks compliments of Nick Krol.

Friday night the pleasant cafe won 24-5 over the padres and where powered by a HR from each of the top 5 batters in the lineup.

Bad Softball Joke

On the last day of tournament the coach was talking to one of his players. "Look, here is 5 bucks," he said. "Go out and buy a new ball or something....anything that will help us win." The game began and the coach noticed that the same old ball was being used. He called his player over and asked "what did you do with the 5 bucks I gave you?" The player replied, "well, you said anything to help us win so I gave it to the umpire."

In last nights action, the Blue Coyote believes the final was 10-4. No game notes were sent.

paper store 12 J&S 8. J&S Was leading until a bad inning.

J&S was ahead 8 to 4 then Paper Store rallied in the top of the 6th and scored 8 runs. Tom Anderson hit a 3 run home run in that inning which were pretty much our insurance runs. Bobby (Louie) Egan also had a few RBI’s.

Game update

In Monday night's action, Pleasant Cafe improved to 2 and 0 beating Auto Tech 6-4. The PC hit 3 homeruns to power past the leagues defending champs. Mike was holding Auto tech scoreless until they figured out the best way to get on base which is apperantly to hit the ball at me considering I apparantly am a liability in the Field! Good defense by Morgie and Malcom helped the PC pull it out.

Game Update

J&S defeated the Padres 11-0 in last nights matchup.

The final score was 11-0 J&S over the Padres. It was a relatively close game until the later innings. The Padres had the bases loaded once but couldn't push a run across. The J S had nice pitching, good defense and some big bats. The Padres had some great defense
both in the outfield and the infield.

Last night Blue Coyote beat the Paper Store 13-5. The game started off as a pitchers duel with Tommy (3 K's) having to pitch for the Paper Store. The pitchers duel ended in the fourth when some messy fielding and good hitting allowed BC to erupt with 6 runs to blow the game open.
